Cuckoo Wasp
This artwork centres on a vivid blue cuckoo wasp, its body shimmering with green undertones as it rests lightly on a branch. The insect’s iridescence becomes the focal point, outshining the muted bark around it and draining colour from its surroundings by contrast.
Beyond its beauty, the cuckoo wasp carries an undercurrent of tension – its beautiful, jewel‑like exterior masks a life relying on deception and resilience to survive by infiltrating the nests of other species. In this still moment, the wasp appears delicate, almost ornamental – yet its presence hints at the complex, often unseen relationships that shape the natural world.
Praying Mantis
This artwork captures a Garden Mantid pausing to look towards the viewer with an almost inquisitive calm. A subtle shift of its foreleg reveals the hidden blue patch inside the arm - an unexpected flash of colour usually reserved for defence. In this quiet moment, the mantis steps away from its reputation as a ferocious predator. Instead, it appears curious and contemplative, offering a glimpse of the delicate intelligence behind its formidable form.
